EDHA SAGA: WHY HON. MOMOH WAS BEATEN TO NEAR DEATH BY EHI EKHATOR

The saga in Edo State house of Assembly took a different turn on Tuesday after an Honorable member of the house, Rasak Momoh was allegedly attacked by some political thugs, and presently receiving treatment in University Teaching Hospital (UBTH) in Benin.

A source who craved anonymity disclosed toNaija CenterNews that the story spread around was completely different from what transpired. It could be recalled that Hon. Momoh was a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) who later decamped to the Peoples Democratic Parties (PDP). Honorable Rasak, Hon. Festus Ebea and others were asked to vacate their official residence after their seats were made vacant due to their defection, but honorable Momoh refused to leave his residence. According to the source, “It started the day the APC went on recess.
The speaker, Uyi Igbe declared Momoh seat’s vacant and was asked to vacate the legislative quarters and also to hand over all government properties in his possession after it was unanimously agreed in the house.
In another development  about four days, the PDP faction made their own resolution, the present APC deputy speaker Hon. Edoror seat was declared vacant. That same day on ITV news, it was reported how Momoh took ITV crew to his official residence and shown to the world that he was still leaving in his official residence and it was a rumour that they have ejected him. Then, almost all the APC members had travelled for their annual recess. “When they resumed for this session, the quarter master was asked to go and serve Momoh ejection notice again after refusing to obey the previous ones.
They sent and he still refused. It was then the quarter master took the EDHA electricians to disconnect Momoh’s light. When he came back, he went to the town and came back with about 9 boys and he reconnected his electricity. Naija Center News investigation revealed that his action infuriated the opposition legislators which made them to cut the light for the second time with the help of the quarter master. Momoh got angry and dragged the ladder they brought and the electrician on top fell and sustain a minor injury, drove his vehicle outside to block the gate; locked the entrance and came back to his apartment through the fence.
Meanwhile At about 9pm the same day (on Tuesday), Uyi Igbe ordered the security guards on duty to break the padlock on the gate. Momoh continued with his resistance for his light not to be cut off. Himself and his boys hold on to the ladder and prevented the electricians from cutting the light.
This went on for about an hour and the scuffle attracted people nearby. At a point Momoh went into the house and brought out an electric shocker and used it on anybody who resisted him. At this juncture, one boy from the crowd who was among those that he used the shocker hit Momoh. It was then one of those boys he brought to the house took a bottle and pursued the boy with it.
Other boys around collected the bottle from the boy and hit it on the boys head and there was blood everywhere. This led to the crowd descending on Momoh after engaging in physical fisticuffs with the boys who injured one of his boys. Momoh was beaten like a common
criminal and the speaker and the rest of them could no longer control the situation. the source told Naija Center that the observers were the ones who started the fight before those staying with the legislators at the quarters joineed in the free for all.

The presence of police calmed the situation, many of the boys escaped including the boys Momoh came with except one who was beaten and seriously injured alongside with the
legislator.

The source who defended Hon. Shaibu said ” To be fair to Shaibu, it was him that was telling boys “please don’t touch”. I am actually surprise
that the whole story was turn upside
down just to embarrass one person”

An eyewitness also confirmed to Naija Center News that Tony Kabaka was at the scene after news filtered into town that there was fight in the quarter. Momoh was already beaten seriously before Kabaka came to the scene.
Kabaka and Hon. Momoh belong to the Neo Black Movement of Africa popularly known as Black Axe. Momoh’s was beaten mercilessly because he came in with members of a different fraternity called Malphites. It was also gathered that Momoh was the only lawmaker left among the PDP legislators who were asked to vacate their quarters and the PDP left at the quarter were those not among the suspended members.
On Thursday evening, the Commissioner of Police in Edo State invited the Speaker of the House, Uyi Igbe and Hon. Shaibu for interrogation and were made to write statements. The police invited another set of lawmakers, namely: Hon. Folly Ogedegbe (Chief Whip) and Hon. Sunday Agbedo – Ovia South West and were all detained until around 7pm when the speaker
was allowed to go home.

The source also denied the speculation toNaija Center News that the Edo State Governor was
involved or masterminded the fight.

He said he would always be accused since he is the governor. The APC is also fingering the President, Goodluck Jonathan as the cause of the heated politics in the state.
