Armed robbers in Lagos State are becoming more daring and have resorted to writing letters to communities and streets they intend to attack, telling the residents to prepare for them and keep their money ready.
That is the lot of residents of Onimaba, College Bus stop, Ikotun Road, Igando, Lagos, when they got the shocking letter purportedly written by hoodlums, intimating them of an impending attack soon. More of such letters were circulated around other streets to show they were serious.
The letter from the criminals which was typed on an A4 paper, reads:
Be prepared, be prepared, be prepared. Our dues must be paid
this festive season. Nobody can stop us as we can strike at any time. Only
enough money can save your life.
To be forewarned is to be fore-harmed. We have warned you in
this area, and if you have ears, you ought to hear.
A distraught
landlord who spoke to the Punch Newspaper over the letter, said the residents
have been living in fear, not knowing when the robbers would strike.
The threat letter is very disturbing. The last time we had a
robbery incident in this area was about six months ago. At that time, they came
in through the compound of Igando Local Government Primary School, and escaped
through Potoku, an unfenced canal at the end of our street.
Potoku Canal reaches all the way to Lagos State University
Road, Igando. We are calling on the police to intensify efforts in securing our
area. We want the Area Commander, Area M, Idimu, and the Special Anti-Robbery
Squad to beam their searchlight on our areas.
Recall that earlier
this month, armed robbers had written letters to residents of a community in
Palmgrove area of Lagos, telling them they would strike any moment and they
did.
