CULT CLASH KILLS TWO AS EIYE AND AIYE CULT GROUPS CLASH IN OGUN

Two persons lost their lives yesterday during a cult clash between members of the Eiye (Air lords) and Aiye (Black Axe) confraternities at Aleke Oke- sopin, Ijebu-Igbo in Ogun State. Reports says that the victims were identified as Abiodun Adeniye, 28, and Taiwo Yusuf, 24. The State Police command, which confirmed the incident, said it had arrested three suspected cult members.

Our correspondent learnt that that the annual Aleke carnival in the town provided the ground for the Eiye and Aiye cult groups to engage in a supremacy battle leading to the serious fight which lasted for several hours of the day.
The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Muyiwa Adejobi, in a statement said some dangerous weapons recovered from the groups include cutlasses, pairs of scissors, two guns, some expended and live cartridges, their groups' paraphernalia and some charms.
Adejobi said the Commissioner of Police, Ikemefuna Okoye, had met with senior officers of the command in Abeokuta, on Sunday on general security of the state with specific focus on Ijebu Ode axis. He added that adequate security arrangements had been put in place to ensure a hitch-free Ojude Oba festival in Ijebu Ode today.
He also said that the command would continue to tackle activities of any cultist groups through robust intelligence and effectively policing. The two cultists who were killed yesterday have been kept in a mortuary in Ijebu-Ode for post-mortem examination. The police boss appealed to the people of Ijebu Ode and Ogun State to collaborate with the police and other security agencies to succeed in the war against cultism in the state and provide security to all and sundry in the state.
