WE DON'T FEAR EBOLA OR EAT BATS OAU STUDENTS! ...

Thousands of migratory fruit bats that live around OAU pose an Ebola threat to the students.
Students of the Obafemi Awolowo University have debunk rumors that they are at risk of the dreaded Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) because of the presence of fruit bats in the institution. Thousands of the migratory bats live in the hills around the university and sometimes are a menace, littering the environment with their dropping.

In the face of the Ebola scourge, there are fears that the bats can be a health risk because the bats are sometimes hunted for their meat, considered a delicacy. But, unperturbed, OAU students have stated that they are not afraid that the presence of the bats put them at risk. One of them spoke with Punch ». “Why all these rumours? We are safe here, nothing is wrong with us. We are in perfect situation. "We are students and we don’t eat bats. The bats are not posing any danger. "I wonder if Ebola is a virus that just jumps on people.
We take caution and we are very careful," she said. But the 'rumour' are not entirely mere hearsay. An official warning about the bats from the OAU management was detailed in a NEWSON 247 » report. “The highly contagious EVD which is currently ravaging some West African countries could easily be spread through contact with infected persons. "The virus could also be transmitted to uninfected persons through contacts with bats" the management had announced.

The management had warned students against making contacts with the bats. "Specifically, members are advised to avoid touching, holding or eating bats. "It is also advisable to avoid pathways through which one may come intact with the faeces/droppings of the bats." The eating of bushmeat has been discouraged with wild animals believed to be carriers of the Ebola Virus.
