The outgoing Vice Chancellor of the University of
Benin Professor Osayuki Godwin Oshodin has attributed his success to
transparency and open door policy during his tenure.

and top officials of the University on events lined up for the 39th
/40th Convocation as well as the 44th Founders Day
ceremony.
The outgoing UNIBEN Vice Chancellor rendering
stewardship account before the large crowd of Representatives of over 70 Media
organizations said he employed over 4 thousand academic and non-academic staff,
promoted 167 staff to the rank of Professor while 208 were elevated to the
position of Associate Professor.
He listed other achievements to included 91 new
projects outside the massive infrastructural development, while contracts for
about twenty new projects have already been awarded.
Professor Oshodin said the institution will combine
2011 /2012 and 2012 /2013 academic sessions.
He said for 2011/2012 sessions a total of 10, 735
graduands are to be awarded various diplomas and degrees including 103
Doctorate , 1933 Masters, 8237 under graduate degrees, and 462 under graduate
Diplomas.
The Vice Chancellor said for the 2012/ 2013 session the senate approved 8737 graduands
including , 27 doctorate Degrees, 449 Msters , 40 Post graduate Diplomas, 7839
Undergraduate Degrees and 382 undergraduate Diplomas.
On activities lined up for the Convocation and
founders Day Programmes, Professor Osayuki Godwin Oshodin said the events kick
off with an inter-denominational service at 9.00Am as well as Convocation lecture to be delivered by , Vice Chancellor of Lancaster University,
United Kingdom, Professor Mark Smith ,
billed for 11 00AM both at the
Akin deco Main Auditorium.
He announced that on Thursday 20th of
November , there will be presentation of Prizes and awards of certificates ,
Diplomas and first Degrees in all Faculties , Schools and Institutes while on
Friday another founders Day lecture by Dr Umar Buba Bindir , Director

On Saturday 22nd of November, 9 projects
will be commissioned including University of Benin Bookshop, Faculty of
Management Science , Academic Block one, central Biomedical Laboratories
Building June 12th shopping
Complex and Centre for entrepreneurship Development Building.
Others include 500 capacity lecture Theatre for the
faculty of Management sciences, concrete drainage landscaping and
channelization of faculty, the Gender studies Building of Pharmacy and Centre
for Mushroom Research and Technology innovations Building.
The out going Vice Chancellor listed those to receive
awards of Post Graduates Diplomas and conferment of Honourary Degrees to
include
The Iyase of Benin, Chief Sam Igbe, Reverend Mathew Okpebholo, former Director of a
commercial Bank Tony Elumelu and former Senator , Mrs Daisy Danjuma.
The Chairman Edo state chapter of the Nigerian Union
of Journalists, Mr Desmond Agbama presenting an award of excellence earlier
said the Vice Chancellors performance has since assumed international acclaim
particularly the smooth transition at the expiration of his tenure.
