International relief agencies have revealed
that thousands of people in Sierra Leone are breaking Ebola quarantine to
search for food, as aid deliveries have not been able to reach them.
Al Jazeera reports that To
contain the spread of Ebola in the country, public health authorities have
imposed restrictions on movement. However, this measure is affecting the
transportation of food. As a result, food is becoming scarce, leading prices to
increase exponentially to the extent that ordinary people are unable to afford
it,
An aid worker stated that “…because services are not reaching quarantined neighborhoods, people
who are being monitored for signs of Ebola and should be staying at home are
venturing out to markets to look for food, potentially contaminating many
others.”
