ARGENTINA BEAT DUTCH IN SHOOTOUT

Argentina beat Netherlands 4-2 on penalties to reach the 2014 FIFA World Cup Final after a 0-0 draw in 120 minutes.

The first half was a tactical affair with very few chances created as both coaches played with defensive caution with so much at stake.
Lionel Messi had a shot on target from a direct free-kick just outside the box but it was straight at Jasper Cillessen in the Dutch goal.

Messi was kept quiet by a combination of good Dutch marking and cynical fouling from Bruno Martins Indi, who was eventually booked just before half-time and replaced by Daryl Janmaat at the interval.

Argentina had the best of the second-half chances as Enzo Perez impressed down the right flank, with Ron Vlaar denying Messi a shooting opportunity with an excellently timed tackle just outside the box.

Arjen Robben had the best chance and looked likely to win the game for the Dutch in the 91st minute after a clever move involving Dirk Kuyt and Wesley Sneijder, but Javier Mascherano got back just in time to make a match-saving tackle. Argentina will now play the Germany in the final game of the FIFA world cup in brazil on Sunday July 13, 2014.
