SCORES KILLED AS GUNMEN SWARM TARABA STATE

A number of people have reportedly been killed after gunmen stormed Wukari local government council in Taraba State and overpowered security forces. Local sources told this publication the unrest intensified on Tuesday.

The casualty figures have been put between 40 to 50 people following the disturbances at the brewery depot located behind the palace of the Wukari monarch.
One of the residents said after setting the brewery on fire, the unknown gunmen went ahead and started shooting sporadically,” President of the Youths of Vision Wukari, Tsa-asen Luka Agbu, confirmed the crisis.
At about five this morning, unknown men stormed the town and burnt down the brewery behind the palace of Aku-uka.”


He added that unknown culprits began to shoot all over the town and the situation sparked off the crisis which overpowered both the military and mobile police that had been stationed in the town. Agbu alleged some politicians in the state had a hand in the incessant crises in the area.
“Our suspicious is that the Acting Governor (Alhaji Umar) is sponsoring machineries to destabilize the area.”
He stressed that both the Christians and Muslims in the area had resolved to co-exists, a decision which might not gone down well with authorities gaining mileage on the crisis.
The member representing Wukari Two at the State House of Assembly, Daniel Ishaya Gani, blamed the is insecurity on the insufficient security personnel on ground.
