 Jonathan has invested About N7bn in educational projects in Rivers State says Wike *approves new Federal Polytechnic in Bonny, Rivers State The Federal Government said it has so far released more than N6 billion to improve the Rivers State in the past few years. This is even as the Federal Government has decided to construct a new federal polytechnic in Bonny Local Government Area of the state to enhance easy access to sound education by Nigerians living in that part of the country.
Speaking on the importance of standard education in national development of any country, the supervising minister of Education, Nyesom Wike, said the on-going Federal Government’s interventionist program was aimed at ensuring that every Nigerian, irrespective of social class, was given unhindered access to good education. Wike disclosed that it was on this basis that Jonathan decided to inject some funds into improving the standard of some tertiary institutions not just in Rivers state but all the states of the federation. Speaking in Bolo community of the Ogu/Bolo Local Government Area of Rivers State in continuation of his visit to some schools in the rural areas at the weekend, the minister reiterated the Federal Government’s resolve to intervene in the education sector to improve the living
standard of Nigerians. According to the minister, some of the Federal Government’s intervention
projects included the N1.5billion grant to the Ignatius Ajuru University. “Through me was the first N500 million and through some other source from the Presidency was another N1
billion”. In Kpopropeteghe School in the state, another N500 million was released. “The law
faculty in the University of Port Harcourt was given N1billion, School of Sciences was given N1billion while Environmental Studies was given N2billion. If you take the General Manager School at Ogu, Aluu and the vocational centre at Ikuru Town in Andoni Local Government
Area, that will give you not less than N1billion and this will amount to N7billion all together
