PRISON IMATE ESCAPES IN BENIN

                                         

AN inmate at the Benin Central Prison Monday escaped from the headquarters of the Edo State Prison Service along Reservation Road in Benin City where he was deployed to do menial works.

Vanguard gathered that the inmate who was wearing only shorts  took to his heels and escaped through famous Benin Moat at the back of the prison headquarters, according to an eye witness
Officials at the prison headquarters said the inmate did not escape through the main gate.
According to a reliable source, the prison official that was to supervised the inmate while he was working claimed to have gone to eat when the incident occurred.
Several officials of the Edo Prison Service were seen combing bushes in adjoining streets and the Benin moat searching for the runaway inmate.
It was observed at the Prison headquarters that a search party was being organized to help arrest the fleeing inmate.
State Comptroller of Benin Prisons, Effiom Etowa, could not be reached for comments but a top official said an official report was yet to be made on the matter.
According to him, “The official that took him out has not report any incidence to us”
